When we visit Cambodia, we will stay mostly in the area surrounding Siem Reap. We will fly into Siem Reap International Airport from Vietnam, and leave the same way on our way to Thailand.
Siem Reap
Siem Reap is the nearest city to the ancient temple cities of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, and Ta Prohm. The name Siem Reap means “Thailand Defeated” — Thailand and Cambodia were ancient rivals. The temples were built in the 12th century by the Khmer Empire.

Koh Ker is another temple site near Siem Reap — about a 75 mile drive away. The temple complex was not open to tourists until 2004 and most of the archaeological sites are still buried in the jungle, surrounded by landmines. A few are available to visitors as part of a tour, including the Red Temple and the 7-layer pyramid Kohmpang.
